The Derbyshire Association of Local Councils AGM was held on the 22nd October at the ProAct Stadium, Chesterfield.
The AGM was attended by Brian Brookes, Risk Manager at BHIB Councils Insurance, and Ajay Dalal, Councils Insurance Broker at BHIB Councils Insurance.
The DALC Derbyshire Excellence Awards were held at the end of the AGM with categories of:
- Councillor of the Year
- Clerk of the Year
- Council of the Year (sponsored by BHIB Councils Insurance)
Brian Brookes, who present the Council of the Year award, commented on the day:
“BHIB were proud to be invited to the Derbyshire Association of Local Councils Excellence Awards to present the award for their “Council of the Year” which was deservedly won by Charlesworth Parish Council. Highly Commended awards were also won by Ripley Parish Council, Kilburn Parish Council and Ashbourne Town Council. Our congratulations go to all those councils for their sterling work during the past year.

Council of the Year – Judges Notes
Charlesworth Parish Council – Winner
Congratulations to Charlesworth Parish Council! The judges noted the council’s success at securing a Post Office service in the village, plus a second lollipop person and their ongoing ability to listen to their community and deliver a diverse range of projects and services.
Ripley Town Council – Highly Commended
Judges noted, as in 2018, the council’s pro-active involvement in a thriving community, organising events ranging from cooking to music lessons, open-air cinema to environmental improvements. Well done to Ripley Town Council!
Kilburn Parish Council – Highly Commended
Judges noted the council’s excellent work restoring the village’s war memorial following many years of despair, ensuring it was ready for Remembrance Sunday in 2018 and then its re-dedication by the Bishop of Repton. A great achievement for Kilburn Parish Council!
Ashbourne Town Council – Highly Commended
The council’s restoration project to safeguard the future of the Grade 11-listed town hall impressed the judges. They noted that the building was a focal point for the community, and the project had secured it for the town’s future generations. A fantastic achievement for Ashbourne Town Council!
