Charities need help now more than ever – they are experiencing a severe lack of income whilst juggling an increasing demand from service users.
Town and parish councils are in a unique position to help charities in their area. Many councils already work closely with various charities and voluntary organisations, and many councillors and clerks of local authorities are involved in charities – whether they are running a charity, sitting on the board of trustees or volunteering.
Below we have outlined four unique ways town and parish councils can help the charities in their area access funding, save money and reopen safely following the coronavirus lockdown.
1. Apply for grants of up to £50,000 – now open!
The Aviva Community Fund is a quarterly funding competition which allows registered charities to apply for funding of up to £50,000 through their Crowdfunding platform.
Due to COVID-19, Aviva have broadened their criteria to include applications for covering the core running costs of causes looking to adapt or continue their vital services throughout COVID-19 – so they can help their beneficiaries and communities during this time of need.

2. Apply for a £50,000 grant – now open!
Ecclesiastical understand the importance of larger, longer-term funding for charities, and how difficult it can be to get these projects off the ground. That’s why they’re awarding 10 charities a £50,000 grant to support them with longer-term funding.
They are looking for projects which support one of the following:
- The advancement of education and skills
- Citizenship or community development
- Arts, culture or heritage
